Adress Form Collection Syncronized With Maps

Mapeed.AddressChooser is a Javascript script for creating an address form with a twist: it displays the address mentioned in Google Maps (can be used with another map provider by creating your mapping proxy) in real-time.

The script adds a behavior on HTML form, & doesn’t generate HTML markup.
It can also be plugged on any existing forms.
You can focus the map to the user’s city/country with the IP used (if mapping provider supports).
Mapeed.AddressChooser is well documented & has a nice demo with script.aculo.us autocomplete.

jQuery Slider Plugin: Easy Slider

Easy Slider is a jQuery plugin for displaying images or any type of content within a slider.
It is configured with CSS and can slide the contents horizontally & vertically.

How does it work?

Create an unordered list with the contents to be slided
Define the div wrapping the slider: $("#slider").easySlider();
Configure your prev-next buttons:
- Previous
- Next
Set the options (speed, horizontal-vertical, IDs for prev-next buttons)
And, style it however you want via CSS

To sum up, Easy Slider is a handy solution for creating sliders that can be easily styled.

Free Form Validation Library: JSValidate

JSValidate is a free library for validating forms that requires Prototype & Script.aculo.us to run.

Some rules it supports are:

Required field
Only numbers
Only letters
E-mail
Credit card number format
US zip code, phone number & state code formats

It works by simply updating class tags of forms with the related rule information.
It lets you define in which tag & class the errors will be displayed & some more.
There is also a jQuery port on the way, named JValidate, which is not out yet but will be sharing at WRD for sure when it is published.

Open Source Monitoring App.: Pandora FMS

Pandora FMS is an open source application that can be used to monitor anything online like:

if a website is up or down
if the content of a website is changed (deface control or when value of a stock changes..)
diskspace or CPU usage of a remote server (via SNMP or TCP/IP)
& many more..

Pandora FMS can run on any operating system, with specific agents for each platform, getting the data and sending it to a server.
You can get real-time reports for every monitor & have them sent to an e-mail adrdess.
It can also send notifications of events via e-mail, SMS or Jabber (MSN, GTalk..) to the desired users.
P.S. To mention, Pandora FMS is not a simple script to install. It is made up by several shellscript files (UNIX/Linux Agents), a Web application in PHP (Console), some code in C++ (Windows Agent), some code in PERL5 (Server) and some structure and data in SQL (Database).

Sexy Curls jQuery plugin is an open source solution for creating a page curl feature with ease.
It uses the jQuery UI & its resizable package.

It provides settings to customize the look & usage:

side: for defining which direction the curl effect will occur
turnImage: image used to create the effect
max. height, starting height & starting width

The smoothness of the curl effect is very impressive.
There is also another jQuery plugin named Page Peel which also accomplishes a similar result, but uses a Flash file.

Blender is an open source 3D content creation suite.
It is an all-in-one package for 3D modeling, animation, rendering, post-production, and gaming.

User interface of Blender is formed of boxes, where all of them can be moved for the max. flexibility for not being blocked by the UI.
Advanced animations & the integrated game engine can be controlled with Python scripting which also makes developers a part of the game rather than only the designers.

The review of immeasurable qualities is tricky. How does one measure aesthetic quality, the benefit of an item, its value to humanity? How does one determine a list of the best fonts of all time? We tried to do this by using on objective and two subjective measurement patters weighted as follows:
FontShop Sales Figures: 40%
Historical Value/Meaning: 30%
Aesthetic Qualities: 30%
The evaluation consisted exclusively of licensed or ‘commercial’ fonts. Free fonts or operating system fonts were not considered, nor were fonts integral to standard software (i.e. Arial, Verdana, etc.). Font variations, which over the centuries have been individually interpreted by various Foundries, were uniquely evaluated as a class and the best variant was entered into the main judging process.
